Young Tigers Seek Lights For Field

With participation growing in the Young Tiger Football and Cheerleading organizations, members of its board of directors attended the Warsaw Parks Department meeting Tuesday with information regarding a potential new lighting system for Fribley Field.
The Young Tigers organization is proposing lighted games Saturday nights to allow for more games to be played on the field. Various options for light installment and payment processes are currently being evaluated.
"The ball is in (the Young Tigers') court," president Bill Baldwin said. "If they collect the information and find a good option, then the parks board can support them."
If approved, the Young Tigers said all residents adjacent to the field would be contacted regarding the new light fixtures. The organization is seeing continuing growth year after year and had 165 participants last season.
Also discussed by the parks board were lease agreements for the Pete Thorn Youth Center. Currently, three organizations, the Baker Youth Club, Boys and Girls Club, and Council on Aging, are located inside the facility.
With the Baker's Youth Club's intentions of building a new center, members of the parks board were contacted to see if a month-to-month contract could be written for Baker to help with the moving process.
The board also discussed the Boys and Girls Club's request for additional space inside of the youth center.
"I think we should be as friendly as possible with Baker Youth," Council Representative Jeff Grose said. "They've been around a long time and have done a lot for the community."
Though the board intended to support the Baker Youth Club with its relocation, members also viewed the month-to-month lease request as a financial liability.
"There could be a point where we say, 'We've done this really nice thing, but now we're out of money,'" member Cathy Folk said.
The board tabled the issue and planned to contact each organization inside the PTYC to see if a compromise could be reached.
Mayor Ernie Wiggins was present for the meeting and swore in John Sadler to the park board. The board also opted to reappoint both Bill Baldwin as president and Sadler as vice president, making no changes to its previous structure. [[In-content Ad]]
