How do you become a puppy trainer?
Anyone who loves dogs and has the time and patience to devote to raising a puppy is eligible to become a puppy trainer for Leader Dogs for the Blind. Puppies are placed when they are seven weeks old, and a home with a fenced yard is preferred.
Interested people must fill out an application and must be ready for a financial investment - all costs involved, including veterinarian bills, shots, food, supplies and other expenses, are borne by the puppy raiser. The Leader Dog school furnishes an instruction manual, puppy tag, bandanna and video.
The "foster parent" also must do the traveling to pick up and deliver the puppy - and must be willing to give up the puppy after a year.
For more information on the Leader Dog for the Blind program, write the school at P.O. Box 5000, Rochester, MI 48308; call 248-651-9011, office, 248-650-7114, puppy department, or 888-777-5332, toll-free; or check out their Web site at leaderdog.org [[In-content Ad]]
