YMCA Carnival Set To Raise Funds For New Facility

July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.

By Staff Report-

Kosciusko Community YMCA is planning a youth and family carnival event to raise funds for a new YMCA.
The event is Aug. 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the current YMCA location, 1401 E. Smith St.
The proceeds from the event will go toward the YMCA’s current Shaping the Future Capital Campaign to build a new YMCA.
Everyone is welcome to the event where there will be a bounce house, hula hoop contest, climbing wall, healthy snacks, a raft race in the pool, egg toss, beach ball volleyball, crafts, face painting and a water balloon toss.
The event will kick off a Youth Coin Drive Competition between different youth departments that are part of the YMCA.
The winning teams will get the opportunity to choose something for the new YMCA facility. Jugs to collect the coins will be in the YMCA lobby.
Initial plans for the new YMCA on U.S. 30 and Mariner Drive include a youth and teen center, outdoor space for day camp, a health and wellness center, lap pool, instructional warm water pool, multi-purpose gathering spaces, and a double gymnasium.
While the YMCA hopes to open the new YMCA in late 2014, the size, scope and timing of the new YMCA facility will ultimately be determined by the generosity of the community in support of this effort.
