Yellow Creek Lake Resident Wants Signs Restored

Calling the decision arbitrary, Dave Patterson said the state removed signs for the lake about two years ago, as part of an effort to remove signs for lakes that don’t have public access with at least 500 feet of frontage. He said the signs stood on Ind. 14 at South CR 600W for about 50 years.
Patterson said the Indiana Department of Transportation told him the 150-member lake association could put up their own sign but it must be on private land, not in the road right of way. He also noted that with a church, houses and trailer park, about 200 people live on the lake – more than some towns, he said – but they don’t have the resources to incorporate.
He said he’d also like to know how many other lakes had their signs removed.
Commissioners took no action, though Area Plan Director Dan Richard suggested after the meeting that Patterson look into having a brown recreational area sign put up to indicate the Yellow Creek Lake Camp. Patterson said hopefully they get the original sign put back up rather than having to get their own.
Commissioners also approved an Area Plan Commission recommendation to vacate a drive in the Roy Hohman subdivision north of Yellow Creek Lake. No one spoke against the vacation, though commissioners heard that neighbors may want to pave the portion of the drive that runs by them.
And they signed paperwork for a $30,000 grant application on behalf of the Turkey Creek Regional Sewer District, which Shannon McLeod, a grant writer with Priority Project Resources, said she plans to submit by the end of the month. She said the sewer district should hear by the end of July if they will receive the grant.[[In-content Ad]]
