Year One

Editor, Times-Union:

Mr. Obama, you've had quite a first year. You've divided our country, taken over Wall Street, banks and automobile companies. You're now working on the health care system and the insurance industry.

You've spent our money like a drunken sailor while increasing unemployment to above 10 percent. You pledged to close Gitmo (without a contingency plan) and bring the terrorists to this country, giving them rights of U.S. citizens in the courts.

You are apparently willing to sacrifice a generation of senior citizens in your quest for government-controlled health care so as to build your legacy. You have vilified those managing free market enterprises as undeserving "fat cats." You have surrounded yourself with advisors and "czars", many not vetted due to your non-cooperation, with socialist and even communist backgrounds.

Everything you propose seems to result in additional mandates, regulations and taxes on the people of this nation. You don't consider the long-term consequences of your planned policies. It's all knee-jerk crisis politics, driven by your radical associates, socialistic ideology, and an entitlement mentality of big government being the ultimate sugar daddy of the nation.

You used the people as a means to an end. But once you were in charge, the people became whining teabaggers and masters of misinformation.

Mr. Obama, you left an entire nation behind when you decided ruling a country was preferable to elected leadership. The moment you took the oath of office, you felt entitled, not privileged.

It's been a long year for this country but, it's going to be a longer, more arduous three years for you. The people did not turn America over to you. You were elected to work for us. And you are beginning to see We The People reclaiming the country you are abusing.

So unless you begin to listen to us, your next three years will seem like a lifetime. And your legacy will be determined by the people, not your actions.
