World Compassion Network is seeking funds to purchase items that will be donated to Hurricane Sandy victims on the East Coast.

WCN has already purchased items for flood buckets, including a half-semi load full of non-perishable food and bottled water, according to Joe Wilkey, WCN executive director.

“We need funds so we can purchase other items to fill the semi,” Wilkey said.

Superstorm Sandy slammed into the New Jersey coastline with 80 miles per hour winds Monday night.

It hurled a 13-foot surge of seawater at New York City, threatening its subways and the electrical system that powers Wall Street.

At least 10 deaths were blamed on the storm.

WCN volunteers plans to deliver a semi load of non-perishable food, bottle water, Gatorade and cleaning supplies to the East Coast.

People can mail funds to assist in purchasing the relief items to World Compassion Network, P.O. Box 1152 Warsaw, IN 46581.

Funds also can be dropped off at the WCN facility at 795 West CR 400N, Warsaw.

Wilkey said the organization is coordinating with volunteers on the East Coast to see what volunteer work WCN can do.

He also said WCN hopes to send its 70,000-watt generator if they can find a secure location that has a need.

Chip Shots: How Callous IS It?
For every 700 to 1,000 words of mine you read on any given Saturday, I have a list of callous, cynical thoughts and remarks I can make about the topics I discuss… easily five-fold of what I allow past my filter and, in turn, e-mail to my editor.
