Kosciusko Association of Female Executives will present the first women's symposium, "Leadership for Women," from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 29 at the 2517 Restaurant, Warsaw.

The featured keynote speaker will be Indiana Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman.

Billed as "a half-day investment in yourself that you won't want to miss," the day will start with a continental breakfast at 7:30 a.m. KAFE officers Mary Gerard, president, and Teresa Zeisig, secretary, will welcome the group at 8 a.m. At 8:15 a.m., Debbie Yingling, worldwide finance director with DePuy, will present "Women As Leaders," followed at 8:45 a.m. by Lin Hutton, pastor of St. Anne's Church, speaking on "Career Changes as an Adult."

Following a break, the topic at 9:30 a.m. will be "21st Century Woman: Tools for Busy Lives." From 10 to 11 a.m. a speakers' panel, which includes Karen Boling, Joan Darr and Esther Rupple, will address women's issues in "Conflict Management for Women," "Rising to the Top" and "Women in a Man's World."

Skillman will speak on "Leadership" from 11:10 a.m. to noon, followed by a question-and-answer session and lunch. Skillman was sworn in Jan. 10 as the first elected female lieutenant governor in Indiana. She began her career as a public servant in 1977, when she was elected Lawrence County recorder. Eight years later, she was chosen to serve as county clerk. She was elected to the Indiana Senate in 1992, and held the position of Majority Caucus Chair, becoming the first woman in Senate Republican leadership.

As lieutenant governor, Skillman oversees the Office of Tourism Development, Energy Group, Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority, chairs the Indiana Counter-terrorism and Security Council and serves as the Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development under the new Indiana State Department of Agriculture and Office of Rural Affairs. An advocate of rural Indiana, she led the Senate to include small towns and rural communities in economic development plans and plans for distressed counties and downtown revitalization.

Skillman relies on the principles of "faith, family and hard work." She and her husband, Steve, have a son, Aaron.

The cost, including breakfast and lunch, is $25 if registration is received by Sept. 16. Late registration is $30 and will be accepted through Sept. 23 at Lake City Bank drop-off points or if postmarked by Sept. 23. Registration information includes the participant's name, title, company, complete address, phone, fax and e-mail address. Send registration information or form with a check or money order made payable to KAFE, to P.O. Box 775, Winona Lake, IN 46590-0775, or drop off at the Lake City Bank in downtown Warsaw, Syracuse, Pierceton, Silver Lake or Mentone.
