Warsaw Police Department Public Information Officer Kip Shuter said central dispatch received a call around 10 a.m. of a train/pedestrian accident at the crossing at Detroit and Fort Wayne streets in Warsaw. When police responded, they found a female subject badly injured under the train.
Shuter said the female was responsive prior to sedation and preliminary information showed she stepped in front of the northbound train just as the engine entered the crossing.
The engine came to rest just north of Lyon Street.
No information on the victim’s name or age was available at the time of the accident, though Shuter said her injuries could be life-threatening. One arm will be amputated as a result of the impact with the train, and the female suffered other injuries to her body.
Warsaw Police Department, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, Warsaw Fire Department and Multi-Township EMS all responded to the scene.
Shuter said all crossings south of the accident will be closed for some time until the train can be inspected and cleared to move.[[In-content Ad]]
