Woman Speeding in Stolen Car Found with Drugs when Stopped

LEESBURG – A New Haven woman was arrested early today after a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Dept. deputy pulled her over in a stolen car and found meth, marijuana and paraphernalia inside.

Stephanie Perrin, 21, is being held on preliminary charges of auto theft, possession of stolen property, possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia, after deputy Travis Shively pulled over the white 2007 Chrysler 300 she was driving early today along Ind. 15 near CR 1000N.

According to Shively’s incident report, the Chrysler 300 passed his cruiser going 10 miles per hour above the posted speed limit, prompting Shively to u-turn and speed up on the sedan. After running the vehicle plates, it came back as stolen out of Elkhart County, and Shively requested backup before initiating a traffic stop, the report said. After following the car into Leesburg, a Milford police officer converged and the pair pulled over the Chrysler 300, the report said.

After detaining Perrin and a passenger, the officers searched the vehicle and found baggies of both marijuana and meth, as well as needles and a glass pipe, the report said.

Perrin told officers the car belonged to a friend, but that “he probably would not be happy that she had possession of the vehicle for the past three days,” Shively wrote in the report. The passenger confirmed that story, and said he was along for the ride only to keep track of the vehicle, the report said. That man was released after questioning.

Perrin is being held in Kosciusko County Jail in lieu of a $55,300 bond.[[In-content Ad]]
