By Staff Report-

A 43-year-old Claypool woman suffered third-degree burns, a fractured pelvis and broken ribs after her car rolled on top of her Friday.

According to Floyd Knafel of the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, Brenda Prater was traveling on Ind. 13 near CR 650N just after 6 p.m. when she went off the right side of the road to avoid an oncoming truck. Prater's car slid across the road, hit an embankment, then flipped. Prater was ejected from the passenger side of her car, which continued to roll, ending up on top of her.

Knafel said Prater suffered burns to her back from the car's exhaust. She was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital, then transferred to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.

She was listed in serious condition Friday night.

Knafel said alcohol is believed to be a factor in the accident: Prater's blood alcohol level tested at .18 percent.

A warrant will be filed against Prater for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

Damage to Prater's vehicle was estimated at $5,000-$10,000. [[In-content Ad]]
