Woman Charged for Drugs After Sholifting Reported

LEESBURG – A Ligonier woman was arrested on drug charges in Kosciusko County Wednesday morning after police responded to a report of her shoplifting at a local store.
Police responded to the shoplifting report at 11:42 a.m. Wednesday at Alley Cats Antiques, 310 S. Main St., Leesburg, where the store owners had detained the subject until officers arrived, according to First Sgt. Chad Hill, public information officer for the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department.
Upon arrival, officers found several stolen items on the subject, identified as Heather Renee Rex, 33, Ligonier.
During the investigation, officers also recovered a container holding various items associated with drug use in Rex’s possession. The Kosciusko County Drug Task Force team was summoned to the scene and after a preliminary field test, the presence of both heroin and methamphetamine was confirmed inside the container.
Rex was arrested and charged with theft, possession of a legend drug and possession of methamphetamine. She was booked on a $2,000 bond.
