Winona Town Marshal To Resign, Council Says

WINONA LAKE - Following an executive session Thursday, the Winona Lake Town Council met to announce Town Marshal Malcolm Gilbert will step down from his current position and assume the role of deputy marshal.

The council accepted the transfer, but will hold Gilbert responsible for town marshal duties until a replacement officer can be found. Town Coordinator Craig Allebach said the transfer request was solely Gilbert's decision.

Gilbert, who had been town marshal of the department for 11 years, was unavailable for comment both Thursday and today.

Also addressed during the public session was the acceptance of a Jan. 30 retirement from police officer Terry Howie.
