WINONA LAKE -ÊContracts between Winona Lake and their attorney, engineer and the Winona Lake Fire Department were approved by the Winona Lake Town Council Tuesday.

The town's attorney, Jim Walmer, will receive $100 per hour for his services. Winona Lake will pay the fire department $18,200 for 2000. The engineer will receive the same rates for services in 2000 as in 1999, approximately $75 per hour.

The town council discussed the state's roads, which have not been accepted into the town. The issue of accepting the roads, according to town clerk Retha Hicks, has been dealt with since 1998. The council tabled any decision to accept the roads until an undetermined later date.

An ordinance restricting parking of large vehicles was sent back to the town's plan commission because of public concern. According to the ordinance, any vehicle more than 7 feet wide and 20 feet long cannot park on town streets.

In its annual report for 1999, the Winona Lake Redevelopment Commission said $10,000 was spent on legal fees and $259,465 was spent on the Park Avenue reconstruction.

The council gave permission to Hicks to advertise an appropriation of $65,000 for a fire truck.

Marty Wessler, from Wessler Engineers, Indianapolis, said Winona Lake received a $25,000 grant from the state for a preliminary engineering study of the town's wastewater. The board approved a contract with Wessler, who helped the town apply for the grant.

Bob Murphy, administrator of a housing grant received by Winona Lake, presented three payments for three different homes. The board approved the payments.

Board officers were elected. Jerry Clevenger is president and Jeff Carroll is vice president. Other board members are Craig Snow, Dave Delp and Roland Ortega. [[In-content Ad]]
