Winona OKs Quarterly Groundwater Monitoring Proposal

WINONA LAKE- Winona Lake Town Council approved a quarterly groundwater monitoring proposal Tuesday.

The $6,812 proposal is for ATC Associates Inc., Indianapolis, to perform groundwater monitoring where underground fuel tanks were previously located at the town's street department.[[In-content Ad]]"The fuel tanks are gone now, but IDEM said groundwater needs to be checked on a quarterly basis to make sure the tanks didn't leak or contaminate water," said Craig Allebach, Winona Lake town coordinator.

In other business, the council approved a yearly resolution to allow clerk-treasurer Retha Hicks to deposit, invest and reinvest funds in local financial institutions designated as depositories.

Also during the meeting, Brent Wilcoxson, managing director for the Village At Winona, thanked the artists and police for assisting with the town's art fair that was Saturday and Sunday.

The council approved providing Winona Lake photographer Al Disbro with $75 per photo that he takes for the town's newsletter.

The council also approved a recommendation from councilwoman Sue Gooding to make motions during all council meeting to approve voucher payments and put the voucher payments on the agenda.

Upcoming events in the town include a Plant Adventure Ultra Run on the Mountain Bike Trails Saturday at 2:30 p.m.; MasterWorks Festival June 20-July 17; Optimist Triathlon June 26 at 8 a.m.; July 3 events include a Firecracker 5K at 8 a.m.; MasterWorks Outdoor Pops Concert at Hillside Amphitheater at 7:30 p.m.; fireworks at dusk; Village at Winona Arts Walk July 9 from 5-8 p.m. and Winona Garden Walk July 17 at 8 a.m.
