WINONA LAKE - The plan commission approved a snow emergency Tuesday that will be a switch for some of the town's residents.

A daily switch that is.

"I think we should only implement the plan on snow emergencies in January and February next year to get people used to the idea, then look at coming back and making it a permanent plan," said Kim Endicott, board member and superintendent of public works.

Under the pilot plan, most streets between Kings Highway and Chestnut Street will have alternating "no parking" restrictions between the even and odd sides of the streets. On even-numbered days there will be no parking on the even side of the street. On odd-numbered days, there will be no parking on the odd side of the street.

The streets included in the alternating restriction are:

• 2nd through 6th streets;

• 11th and 12th streets;

• 14th and 15th streets.

• Auditorium and Administration boulevards. East and West Canal streets will also be included in the restrictions.

The streets not included in the restrictions are 1st, 7th and 13th streets, as well as Court Street and Pope Avenue.

The recommendation will be considered by the Winona Lake Town Council tonight at 6 p.m. in the town hall.

In other business, the commission unanimously approved the final plat for phase two of the Lexington Manor development. As a part of the approval, the plan commission is requiring a $6,000 performance bond of the subdivision's streets, that still needs final paving once the development is completed.

Members of the Winona Lake Plan Commission are: Mike Grill, president; Randy Ruppel; Brent Wilcoxson; Lee Jenkins; Endicott; Lynette Dick; and Mark Workman. [[In-content Ad]]
