During a routine traffic stop, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Dept. deputy James Marshall arrested a man on charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of marijuana.

David Lee Goad, 22, of 1324 Lexington Drive, Winona Lake, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, felony possession of marijuana and possession of synthetic marijuana.

Early Saturday morning, Marshall and reserve deputy Bruno Martinsky were patrolling on Center Street, stopped at the train tracks, when they spotted a red Nissan in front of them. Martinsky ran the BMV check and found out Goad had a restriction on his license that said he had to have outside rearview mirrors. They noticed that he was missing his passenger-side mirror.

When the train passed they initiated a traffic stop to speak with Goad about his mirrors. When Marshall asked Goad for his license, Goad could not find his wallet, but identified himself as David Lee Goad. Marshall then asked Goad to go back to his patrol car while he wrote him a warning for his license restriction violation.

Once Marshall and Goad were in the vehicle, Marshall noticed that Goad was very nervous, his breathing was rapid and his heart was beating hard enough that his chest was moving.

Once Marshall wrote the warning he asked Goad if there was anything illegal in his car and Goad said no. Marshall then asked Goad individually if he had any marijuana, heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine, weapons, explosives or large amounts of money in his vehicle and Goad said no.

Afterward, Marshall noticed that Goad’s nervousness increased and Marshall asked to search the vehicle. Goad agreed to allow his vehicle to be searched.

Warsaw Police Department officer Scott Quillen arrived to assist. Martinksy stayed with Quillen while Marshall searched the vehicle. In the center console Marshall found a sealed plastic bag of synthetic marijuana, a plastic baggie containing a green leafy substance, several corners torn from plastic baggies that contained a white powder residue and several cellophane packages of unknown pills. In the backseat Marshall found a small digital scale, and in the driver’s side door Marshall found a small tin container with a razor blade in it.

When Marshall asked Goad about the items he said they did not belong to him.

After Marshall inspected the pills they were found to be a variety of Claritin, Sudafed and Aleve D. Marshall then tested the white powder, which came back positive for methamphetamine.

Goad was taken to the Kosciusko County Jail and booked on $450 bond.[[In-content Ad]]
