Winona Lake Approves Request To Purchase Fire Department Vehicle

WLFD Chief Mitch Titus requested, at the council's Jan. 8 meeting, for the department to purchase the 1995 Ford F250 truck. The current pickup truck's transmission is going out, Titus said.[[In-content Ad]]The fire department will purchase the pickup truck for $5,000. The department will pay $2,500, and the town will pay $2,500.
The council also approved an agreement and fee schedule with Larry Long for engineering services for the town in 2008.
The council approved London Witte Group to provide financial advisory services for road improvement projects in the town.
The town has approved replacing deteriorating pavement on St. Andrews and Prestwick streets in Stonehenge Subdivision.
Town Coordinator Craig Allebach said he and Public Works Director Pete O'Connell met with Indiana Department of Transportation and Bonar Group to discuss the CR 250E project.
Allebach said the road improvements will begin again Feb. 18.
Town Council President Joy Lohse said the council is working on updating the town's Web site. Lohse said the goal is to have a draft for the updated Web site and plans to present it to the council in April.
Councilman Terry Howie said there are tree limbs overhanging on 13th Street coming off of Kings Highway, and he suggested they be cut by the street department to avoid accidents.
O'Connell said he will look at the situation.
Clerk-Treasurer Retha Hicks said she, Howie and Allebach attended a conference last week for training elected officials. The conference was in Indianapolis and was sponsored by the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns.
Upcoming events in the town include "A Framework for Understanding Poverty" workshop Thursday at the Orthopedic Capital Center at Grace College from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Other events include the Indianapolis Opera Ensemble will present "Don Giovanni" Sunday at 2 p.m. at Rodeheaver Auditorium, and the Warsaw/Kosciusko County Chamber of Commerce annual membership dinner is Jan. 31 at 5:15 p.m. at the Orthopedic Capital Center.
