WINONA LAKE - District 3 Winona Lake Town Councilman Jim Lancaster submitted his letter of resignation this morning to Clerk-Treasurer Retha Hicks.

Lancaster announced at the July 27 council meeting that he is resigning from the council to take on an international assignment with Biomet. He is relocating to the Netherlands.

Lancaster said the relocation is for a minimum of two years, and he plans to keep his home in Winona Lake and return to the town with his family.

Lancaster was elected to the council in November 2007, and was serving his first term on the council.

Randy Girod, Kosciusko County GOP chairman, said he will review the resignation letter. The letter will then be forwarded to Jason McSherry, county clerk, to review.

Girod said a caucus will be set in the next 30 days, and four Republican precinct committeemen will select someone to fill Lancaster's seat.

The precinct committeemen are Dave Wolkins, R. Wayne Snider, Janice Workman and Karen Wildman.

The person selected to fill Lancaster's seat will join Council President Terry Howie and councilmen Randy Swanson, Joy Lohse and Sue Gooding.

Declaration of candidacy forms will be available at McSherry's office for those interested in the seat once a date and time have been determined for the caucus.

Hicks said Lancaster has contributed a great deal to the council.

"We are excited for Jim and his family, but will truly miss his leadership," Hicks said.

Lancaster said it is bittersweet that he will not continue to serve on the council to finish out his term that would have ended in December 2011.

"I've looked at this role as a service of giving back to the community and have enjoyed working with a dedicated council, volunteer fire department, town employees and parks department," Lancaster said.

Lancaster encouraged the council to continue to work on its strategic plan to provide the town with direction.[[In-content Ad]]
