Adams will donate 5 percent of his salary in 2013 back to the town.
During Tuesday night’s meeting, Jim Walmer, town attorney, said it is unlawful for a city or town to reduce an elected official’s salary from a previous year, but it can be increased.
Once the salary is increased, it cannot be decreased.
The council will review a salary ordinance at its Nov. 27 meeting for a proposed 3 percent salary increase for town employees excluding the clerk-treasurer and town coordinator. The council also at that meeting will decide Adams’ and Town Coordinator Craig Allebach’s salary for 2013.
Also during the meeting, the board approved a recommendation from Larry Long, town engineer, for a $11,613.36 contract between the town and Newton & Sons Excavating Inc. for storm drainage improvements at Arbor Lane and Eola Drive.
Long provided a town streets project update. He said asphalt will be placed today on Prestwick Subdivision streets; the contractor will do sewer pipe lining work in Muirfield Subdivision; and Wooster Road has been re-asphalted.
Allebach informed the council a link is on the town’s website at winonalake.net for residents to fill out a five-year master plan for the parks and recreation system in Winona Lake.
Mitch Titus, Winona Lake Fire Chief, asked what he should do with the old ladder truck. The town previously approved purchasing a new ladder truck to replace the aged truck.
Allebach said the town will be having an auction for Winona Lake Lodge items that the truck could possibly be put in.
Upcoming events include the annual Winona Lake Community Dinner Thursday at 5 p.m. at The Hub, 1201 College Avenue; a Community Wind Ensemble Fall Concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Rodeheaver Auditorium; and a Turkey Lurkey event to benefit Combined Community Services Saturday at 9 a.m. in Winona Lake Park.[[In-content Ad]]
