Wind Ensemble 'Dance To The Music' Nov. 18
July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.
By Staff Report-
The theme for the concert is "Dance to the Music".
Dance comes in many forms from functional movement of the many folk dances around the world to the virtuoso techniques involved in ballet. Dance movement many times is used as an expression of ideas, emotion, ceremonial and communication as in Asian and Middle Eastern dances.
Sometimes a dance is used to express a story.
Dance also obviously is used for recreational purpose like Ballroom, Waltz, Latin and even the Square dancing.
Every dance, no matter what style, has something in common. It involves interpreting the music. Just as a choreographer creates the dance, Martin Becker has created a variety of music for the concert.
Program selections will include "The Walking Frog" by Karl L. King, which is a two-step written for the Circus clowns "walk about", an exciting fiery Salsa/Mambo Danzas Cubanas, a good old-fashion hoe down titled "American Barndance" by Richard Saucedo, Maurice Ravels' most popular work "Bolero", from the Middle East "Arabian Dances" by Brian Balmages, and the Can Can, Waltz and Ballet movements from "Themes from Offenbach".
The Grace College Community Wind Ensemble consists of 60 musicians and rehearses weekly at Grace College. Martin Becker has been conducting the group for the past eight years. The musicians in the group are students attending Grace College, several talented area high school students, community musicians, professional musicians and 24 active or retired band directors.[[In-content Ad]]This will be the opening concert for the bands 2010-2011 concert season. The concert is free and open to the public. An offering opportunity will be available.
