SYRACUSE – Wilma May Mitchell, 81, of North Webster, passed away April 24, 2012, in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, following a brief illness.

She was born Oct. 6, 1930, in Noble County, to William and Mabel Simpson Wilfong. On May 15, 1954, in South Whitley, she married Dick Mitchell, who died in 2012.

She moved to North Webster from South Whitley in 1957 and has resided there since. She retired from the deli/bakery at Augsburgers, North Webster, in 1996, after 25 years. She volunteered at the North Webster Food Pantry since 1998. She was a member of North Webster United Methodist Church. She was a past officer of Lady Lions, was a charter member of Ladies Firemans Auxiliary and a member of Lamba Chi Omega Sorority, Snowmobile Club and Past Cheif’s Club (Pythian Sisters). She loved to bowl and was active in leagues for 50 years.

Surviving are a son, Bruce Mitchell, North Webster; a daughter, Sarah (and spouse Brian) Knisley, Syracuse; two grandchildren, Jessica Whitfield, Larwill, and Joshua (and spouse Trish) Mitchell, Fort Wayne; two step-grandchildren, Matt Knisley, Sturgis, Mich., and Cayla Knisely, Muncie; three great-grandchildren: Tristan Whitfield, Larwill, and Jenna and Haydenn Mitchell, both of Fort Wayne; and a sister, Jewell Crume, South Whitley. She was preceded in death by a son, Richard, who died in 1955; a daughter, Laurel, who died in 1975; four sisters: Annabell (and spouse Ed) Snyder; Mary (and spouse Burrell) Mathias; Helen Love; and Suzella Hinton; and four brothers: Carl Wilfong; Eldon Manlove; Charles (and spouse Vivian) Wilfong; and Bill (and spouse Bonnie) Wilfong.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Eastlund Funeral Home, 7458 E. CR 1000N, Syracuse, officiated by Pastor David Smitley of North Webster United Methodist Church. Burial will be in North Webster Cemetery, Mock Addition.

Calling is from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
