SYRACUSE - William F. Kern, 87, of Syracuse, died at 2:28 p.m. March 26, 2008, in Lakeland Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, Milford.

He was born April 5, 1920, in Kosciusko County, to Forest W. and Romaine Tom Kern. On June 11, 1944, he married Vivian Good, who died March 21, 2005.

A lifetime area resident, he worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad for seven years and Syracuse Rubber for 30 years, retiring in 1984. He attended Bethel Church of the Brethren, Milford; was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post 223, both of Syracuse; and was a World War II Army veteran.

Surviving are a son, Roger (and spouse Betty), Syracuse; two daughters, Sandra (and spouse Mark) Wagner, Richmond, and Ruby (and spouse Louie) Davis, Leesburg; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a brother, George "Tom" Kern, Goshen. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Harris Chapel, Syracuse, with Pastor Verne Leininger officiating, and with full military honors. Burial will be in Syracuse Cemetery.

Calling is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
