William D. Ladd, 80, died at 6:50 p.m. Aug. 12, 2011, in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

He was born Sept. 9, 1930, in Macy, to William A. and Mabel Murphy Ladd. He married Alice P. Chamberlin on Valentine’s Day.

He entered the U.S. Air Force Dec. 29, 1950, in Indianapolis, and  served with the 3514th Field Maintenance Squad during the Korean War. S/Sgt William Dean Ladd was honorably discharged Dec. 7 1954, from Randolph Air Force Base, Texas. Living most of his life in Warsaw, he worked at Kimble Glass for 35 years, retiring as supervisor in 1985. He was a 1948 graduate of Warsaw High School; a life member American Legion Post 49, Elks Lodge 802 and Moose Lodge 1815; and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1126.

Also surviving are two daughters, Lorna Ladd, Winona Lake, and Michelle Ladd, Warsaw; a stepson, Clifford (and spouse Mary) Thomas, Warsaw; a stepdaughter, Sheri (and spouse Harley) Bates, Bartlesville, Okla.; three grandchildren: Craig (and spouse Kristen) Thomas, Mentone; Shelly J. Bates, Cocoa, Fla.; and  Jared Thomas, Ligonier; a great-granddaughter, Ellie Mae Thomas; two step-grandchildren, Mitchell Titus, Warsaw, and Amber (and spouse Kevin) Gelbaugh, Winona Lake; three step-great-grandchildren, Shawna  and Garrett Titus and Emma Gelbaugh. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ward Ladd, who died May 14, 1994.

Calling is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, with military honors at 7 p.m. by members of American Legion Post 49 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1126, both in Warsaw.
