He was born Aug. 16, 1939, in Toledo, Ohio, to Daniel and Alice Marsh Selvey. On March 6, 1983, in Syracuse, he married Joyce Smith, who survives.
He was a Toledo police officer investigating personal injury accidents and was an instructor for the Police Academy before retiring and moving to Syracuse. He joined the Syracuse Police Department and was the police chief before retiring from law enforcement. He joined his wife operating the Country Mouse until it closed in 2009.
Also surviving are two daughters, Gloria Selvey and Cheryl Henry, both of Belleville, Ill.; a son, Brad Selvey, Belleville; a stepson, Terry Smith, Syracuse; and two step-grandchildren, Sydney and Sarah Smith, Westfield. He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Alice and Lloyd Reed; his father, Daniel Selvey; and a stepson, Brad Smith.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Eastlund Funeral Home, 7458 E. CR 1000N, Syracuse, with Pastor Brad Cox officiating.
