William “Bill” Ray Huiras, 66, Silver Lake, passed away at 3 p.m. March 2, 2014, at his residence.
He was born June 16, 1947, in Peru, to Melvin Huiras and Laura Louise Swingle Huiras McGaffney. On April 22, 1983, in Bunker Hill, he married Donna Jolene “Jo” Ramsey Huiras, who survives in Silver Lake.
He was a 1965 graduate of Oak Hill High School in Converse, and after graduation he served in the U.S. Army from 1966 until his honorable discharge in 1969.
He was a resident of Kosciusko County for the past 40 years where he worked as a communications technician for General Telephone Company. He had worked for Indiana Bell, GTE and Verizon until his retirement in 2000. After retirement he worked as a consultant for Tesinc Telephone Company. He was a former member of Laketon Wesleyan Church.
Also surviving are three sons: Erin (and spouse Christine) Huiras, Wabash; Willis “Ed” (and spouse Catherine) Huiras and Christopher Huiras, both of Carmel; one daughter, Tamara Roller, Winona Lake; six grandchildren: Evan, Alex, Mikayla, Charlie, Grant and Mika; and his sister, Monica Oliver, Amboy. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Paul McGaffney; and his son, Eric Huiras.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, with Pastor Jeff Pfeifer officiating.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
