SYRACUSE - Willard G. Watkins, 80, of North Manchester, and formerly of Syracuse, died at 12:30 p.m. March 25, 2009, in his residence.

He was born Oct. 2, 1928, in Frozen Creek, Ky., to Ballard and Lyda Smith Watkins. On Jan. 14, 1948, he married Freda Campbell, who survives.

Moving to North Manchester in 2005, after living in Syracuse for 17 years, he was a retired self-employed granite mason. He was a member and deacon at First Love Baptist Church, North Manchester, and a member of Free Masons, Columbia Lodge 44, Miami Town, Ohio 32nd Degree, Scottish Rite, ASSR.

Also surviving are four sons; James C. (and spouse Leslie) Watkins, Cincinnati, Ohio; Joseph H. (and spouse Ginger) Watkins, Washington Courthouse, Ohio; Gregory W. (and spouse Sue) Watkins, North Manchester; and Willard Jr. (and spouse Jean) Watkins, North Webster; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Sam Watkins, South Whitley. He was preceded in death by a brother, Clay Watkins.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Harris Chapel, Syracuse, with Pastor Jerry Creekmore officiating. Burial will be in Booneville Cemetery.

Calling is one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.
