He was born May 22, 1927, in Warsaw, to Clarence and Kathryn Deaton Maish. In 1949, he married Gloria Schneider. In 1978, he married Helen Bowskill, who survives.
After graduating from Warsaw High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he spent the largest part of his short military career aboard a mine sweeper in the South Pacific. After his discharge, he attended Indiana University for three years. In 1949, he began working with his father and brother, Robert, at Little Crow Foods processing plant, Warsaw. He was vice president and director of marketing.
While in Warsaw, he served as elder, deacon and trustee for the First Presbyterian Church. He was past president of the industrial division of the Warsaw Chamber of Commerce and served as campaign chairman for the Kosciusko County United Way. He was past president of the board of trustees for Warsaw Community Schools, Kosciusko County. He retired early to Lake Keowee, S.C., where he was active with the Seneca Presbyterian Church groups supporting Meals on Wheels and Our Daily Bread.
Also surviving are two daughters, Caryl Maish (and spouse Greg) Myers, Chicago, Ill., and Shelley R. Maish, Erie, Colo.; a son, Jay D. (and spouse Jeanne) Maish, Littleton, Colo.; and two grandsons. He was preceded in death by a brother.
A memorial service will be in Seneca.
