COLUMBIA CITY - Wilbert C. "Wib" Welling, 73, of Larwill, died at 3:07 a.m. Jan. 17, 2010, in Parkview Whitley Hospital, where he was admitted Jan. 6.

He was born April 22, 1936, in Greene County, Pa., to Lee Roy and Cora Yoder Welling. On Dec. 26, 1957, in Aleppo, Pa., he married Bernetta Harley Seifert, who survives.

He graduated in 1955 from Richhill Township High School, Wind Ridge, Pa. In 1963, he moved to Warsaw until 1972 when he moved to Columbia City. In 1986 he moved near Larwill. He retired from Omni Source in 1999, with 33 years of service and from Ace Hardware in 2004, with five years of service. He attended Grace Brethren Church.

Also surviving are four children: Randy (and spouse Ann) Welling, Greenfield; Saundra (and spouse Brad) Fredrickson, Brush Colo.; Crystal (and spouse Robert) Salesman, Columbia City; and LeRoy Welling, Fort Wayne; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Floyd Welling, Goshen; and two sisters, Cheerful (and spouse James) Pettit, Cameron W.Va., and MaryEllen (and spouse David) VanNorman, McCracken Pa. He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial will be in Union Township Cemetery.

Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
