He was born Sept. 21, 1940, in South Whitley, to Virgil and Frances Pence Schannep. On Sept. 14, 1963, he married Barbara Stoops, who survives.
A truck driver, he retired in 2000. He was a 1959 Central High School graduate, and was a member of Deming Lodge 88 F&AM, Moose Lodge 1518, and American Legion Post 286, all in North Manchester. He was an aircraft mechanic in the U.S. Air Force from February 1960 through August 1963, and served in Germany during the Vietnam Era.
Surviving are three sons: Rikky (and spouse Jessica) Schannep, Warsaw, and Danny (and spouse Abby) Schannep, and Denny (and spouse Heather) Schannep, all of North Manchester; a brother, Tim Schannep, Chicago, Ill.; two sisters: Connie (and spouse James) Vinton, Wilmington, Del.; and Darlene (and spouse Bob) Lane, Fort Wayne; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons and three brothers.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at South Whitley Cemetery with Pastor J.P. Freeman officiating.
No calling is planned.
