Who Should We Fear?

As the presidential election nears, we should not be surprised that President Obama is ramping up his campaign by bashing the contender, Mitt Romney, for his “big business” experience. Demonizing Mr. Romney’s work experience and insinuating he shouldn’t be president because “he’s rich” is the validation President Obama and “the left” assume is needed to maintain the White House.
It’s puzzling that “the left” can’t see the outcomes of “hating the rich” as evidenced throughout history. Whenever the private sector diminishes, the public sector, aka government, grows more powerful. While the left sees this as a glorious goal, haven’t they overlooked what happens when we can no longer control big government?
Ask who starved the 75 million Chinese to death; was it big business or big government? Maybe the 20-30 million Soviet citizens killed in the Gulag have the answer? Was it Marlboro, Marathon Oil or Bayer Aspirin that executed a quarter of the Cambodian population? Who has the authority to tax us, arrest us and confiscate our property?
President Obama’s devotion to big government is evidenced by his constant use of executive power, the EPA, and departments of Homeland Security and Energy to squelch growth in the private sector. While economic indicators persistently say U.S. economic growth is stagnant, President Obama insists the private sector “is doing fine.”
Consider the effects his policies have had on the poor; our youth; or those attempting to make their way in this world. All he offers is “more government” and we know where that ultimately leads. President Obama maintains “successful people didn’t get there alone.” And successful people know that. That is why they hire people to help grow and expand their businesses. In turn, we, as a nation, benefit through this free-market process. It’s big government we should fear.
