Whitley Council Hears Report On Drinking Fountain
July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.
SOUTH WHITLEY - Town council members Glee Eberly and Tony Starkey heard from park board member Jonathan Damon Tuesday who discussed the design of water fountain.
The drinking fountain was installed by Delta Theta Psi sorority years ago in memory of longtime member Mary Crahen and was demolished by a runaway truck in October.
Damon said the design used to secure a grant from Whitley County Foundation was not "set in concrete."
Another design, drawn by Eberly, who is also a sorority member, was presented.
Damon told the board local Boy Scout troops were interested in park projects.
South Whitley - Cleveland Township Fire Chief Tom Warner advised the board fire department officers are the same as last year. The department now has 25 members.
He said more than $20,000 has been raised for the IRIS thermal imaging system.
Warner said several firemen participated in a flashover chamber training recently and more plan to attend the seminars.
Warner's request for $1,000 to purchase a 20-channel radio for a town-owned tanker was approved.
The board approved a boat launch installation along the Eel River by the Department of Natural Resources as requested by Joe Stephens.
Stephens said he attended a Watershed Alliance of The Eel River meeting and a DNR representative was there. The state department will provide a launch if the town agrees to maintain the structure. Stephens said maintaining the launch will be no problem.
Clerk Mitch Winger presented town counsel Jon Myers with the names and addresses of eight people for small claims collection regarding overdue utility bills.
Winger read a proclamation stating the town's intention to comply with the Census Bureau's 2000 survey, which Eberly and Starkey signed.
A communication was received from Cole Engineering regarding a reduction in charges for services on the sanitary sewer line project. At the last meeting the board questioned an invoice indicating more than $50,000 in additional charges.
Subsequently the engineering firm has reduced charges nearly $10,000 - from $67,800 on the original contract to $66,100, and from $51,000 to $43,000 in additional charges.
The board adjourned to an executive meeting to discuss a personnel issue. [[In-content Ad]]
