PIERCETON – Whitko Schools will be implementing new marketing and technology initiatives.

Those were discussed during the Whitko School Board meeting Monday night.

In a push to get more parents to join the corporation’s e-mail list for updates, the corporation received an iPad 2 from a vendor to give away. More details on that giveaway haven’t been released yet.

Whitko Superintendent Steve Clason said updating websites and social media from school to school is being figured out.

Each school will have a point person in charge of those updates. Clason said it may be an administrator or it may be a tech person.

This summer, both Pierceton and South Whitley elementary schools are getting an upgrade to their wireless Internet systems.

Director of Financial Operations Tom McFarland reviewed the annual financial report and the school board approved it.

The board also approved policy changes for the board itself.

Textbook rental fees were also approved, and the board reviewed handbooks for the upcoming school year.

The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Aug. 15 at 7:30 p.m.

A budget workshop is scheduled for that night at 7 p.m., and a recognition of  new staff is slated for 6:30 p.m.

An executive session will take place at 6 p.m.
