PIERCETON - Tonight, the Whitko School Board will hold the first of two meetings scheduled to collect public input on the board's search for a new superintendent.

Former superintendent Dr. Jeff Hendrix resigned in June to take a job as superintendent of Marion Community Schools. Bruce Hippensteele has served as interim superintendent since July 2.

Hippensteele said the board would like to hire a superintendent by December, in time for the new hire to begin work in January. However, Hippensteele said, if the board needs more time to find a candidate who is a good fit for the school corporation, he will stay on as interim superintendent as long as needed.

"I told them I won't leave them in the lurch," Hippensteele said.

Collecting input from the public is the first step in the board's hiring process. Tonight's meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Whitko Administration Office, Pierceton. The other public input meeting is scheduled for Sept. 5 at Whitko High School Lecture Room, South Whitley. After both meetings have been held, the board officially will post the superintendent job vacancy.

After receiving applications, the board will identify and interview top candidates according to public input they have received and the candidates' qualifications.

The board has prepared a questionnaire for members of the public wishing to provide input. The form will be available at both meetings and also is available at www.whitko.org where members of the community can fill it out and submit it online. The board will accept public input on the hiring process until Sept. 6.[[In-content Ad]]
