Whitko OKs Grant Applications

SOUTH WHITLEY - The Whitko School Board of Trustees approved the submission of grant applications Monday.

They are submitting applications for $18,800 to the Whitley Co. Community Foundation for library books and materials for the library; for $248 for updated dictionaries from KEYS; and for $6,500 from Parkview Whitley Hospital Community Health Improvement for the purchase of health books in all buildings.[[In-content Ad]]The meeting opened with recognition for National Educational Bosses Week.

Following was a presentation on the PATINS grant. South Whitley Elementary Principal Barb Flory and teachers presented information on the technology tools received from the grant.

The board approved the Whitko High School Improvement Project after a presentation of the claims.

The board approved the 2007-2008 MAP and ISTEP+ testing schedules.

The board approved an educational field trip request, along with extra curricular reports presented in April 2007, by Pierceton and South Whitley elementary schools, and Whitko Middle and High schools.

The fund comparison report reflected the percentage of unexpended appropriations as of April 30.

The general fund is at 68.77 percent, the capital projects fund is at 77.9 percent, and the transportation fund is at 56.36 percent.

The all-funds report showed a total of $5,230,170.15 in checking, and investments among National City Bank, Lake City Bank, Star Financial Bank and First Federal.

The revenue report as of April 30 showed a collection of 1.17 percent of local property tax and zero percent of financial institution tax and license excise tax.

Under new business, the following resignations were approved:

Heather Chalk resigned as assistant volleyball coach at WHS; Brandi Bayles, seventh-grade girls volleyball coach at WMS; Kelly Gradeless, cheerleading sponsor at WMS; Chris Harrison, seventh-grade girls basketball coach at WMS; and Mandy Freed, junior varsity volleyball coach at WHS.

The following personnel were approved for employment:

Tara Hoosier, eighth-grade girls volleyball coach at WMS; Erinn Caley, English teacher at WHS; Sue Lopshire, media specialist; Jean Kessie, guidance/athletic secretary at WHS; and Lucinda Hicks, study hall/ISS monitor at WHS.

The board went through building and department updates.

Peggy Cavanaugh, food services department, provided the board with a memo regarding changes in food service for the 2007-2008 school year.
