PIERCETON -ÊWhitko High School's athletic department will have a new look in the very near future. The school board approved a plan that named Bryan Sprunger and Susan Mishler co-athletic diretors for the high school.

According to Whitko High School Principal Jim Suding, the plan has multiple benefits. Because the high school hosts more than 125 home events and travels to just as many away events, large amounts of supervision are needed.

"It's too much to ask of just one person," said Suding.

Both Sprunger and Mishler will teach half-days and hold athletic director duties the rest of the day. They will split the event supervision duties in the evenings.

Sprunger, who has been the head football coach at Whitko High school for 21 years, will continue to teach industrial arts and coach football while assuming the additional duties of Athletic Director. A graduate of Indiana State University with a Master's Degree in school administration, Sprunger holds an Indiana license for industrial education. He has 24 years teaching experience. Sprunger resides in South Whitley with his wife Vicki, a teacher at South Whitley Elementary School. The Sprungers have three sons, Bradley (22), Nicholas (18) and Jeffrey (16).

"Bryan Sprunger has been here," said Suding. "He knows the coaches and teachers. He's a familiar face who knows the program from the inside."

Mishler will teach physical education along with her duties as athletic director. She is a graduate of Ball State University with a Bachelor of Science degree. She has an Indiana license in physical education (K-12) and health and safety. Previously, Mishler was the assistant athletic director at Warsaw Community High School. She also taught physical education at Warsaw Community High School and NorthWood Middle School. Mishler currently resides in Milford with her husband Phil.

"Susan Mishler has been the assistant athletic director at Warsaw (Community) High School, so she knows how things work," said Suding. "She has expertise in working with the IHSAA, as well as contracting with officials and other schools."
