SOUTH WHITLEY - Whitko School Board hired Columbia City High School head basketball coach David Parker as the new Whitko High School assistant principal Monday.

Parker will replace Steve Mundy, who is retiring at the end of the current school year after 40 years with Whitko Schools.

Parker has been at CCHS for two years. Along with coaching, he currently teaches Web design. Parker also has worked and coached at East Allen and East Noble schools. Parker has a total of 13 years of teaching experience.[[In-content Ad]]He earned his undergraduate degree at Taylor University and his masters degree at IPFW.

WHS Principal Parrish Kruger said he is looking forward to working with Parker.

"He's very professional," said Kruger. "I think he's a highly organized young man. He has a clear direction and I think he has a good way of working with students."

Kruger said Parker's experience with Web design also will be an asset to WHS.

Parker said he is looking forward to starting his new job. He said he has enjoyed his time teaching and coaching at CCHS and it was not an easy decision to make the move. But, he said, he earned his administrative credentials in order to pursue this type of position.

"The biggest challenge is taking over for a guy who's given 40 years of service to that school corporation. There will be some big shoes to fill," Parker said.

After the school year ends, Parker said, he plans to sit down with Mundy to get some advice.
