Whitko Goes Over Preliminary Student Numbers

PIERCETON - Whitko Community School Board went over its preliminary enrollment numbers Monday night.

Tom McFarland, director of financial operations for Whitko, said the preliminary count is 1,892 students corporation wide. That number is down roughly 20 from last year.

There was no further breakdown by school as of this morning. A count of students was held Friday.

The board also heard a report on ISTEP results from Superintendent Steve Classon.

Those numbers were released Wednesday.

A report on ISTEPs for area schools appeared in the Times-Union Friday.

In grades 3-8, fifth grade had the highest passing rate in English and math with 66.2 percent of students passing.

The 2010 capital projects plan and 2010 bus replacement plan, along with adoption of board policy were approved.

The board heard a report from Michelle Ball, fourth-grade teacher at Pierceton Elementary, on the Response to Intervention program at her school.

The board also approved several field trips.

The board recognized donations from the Pierceton United Methodist Church of two sets of Indiana Studies Weekly to fourth-grade class of Pierceton Elementary.

The Zoo Keepers Committee of Parkview Whitley Hospital was recognized for donating school supplies.[[In-content Ad]]The board entered a two-year agreement with the American Red Cross that allows school facilities to be used should there be a disaster of some kind.

The board will next meet Oct. 19 at 7:30 p.m. at the administration building in Pierceton.
