Whitko FCCLA Wins At State

SOUTH WHITLEY – Fourteen Whitko High School FCCLA members joined more than 600 other FCCLA members from across the state to participate in the 2013 Indiana State Leadership Conference in Indianapolis March 7-9.
While at the conference, students participated in the Students Taking Action with Recognition Events competition, which allows students to demonstrate skills learned in the Family and Consumer Sciences classroom.
During the conference students were able to attend mini sessions designed to help them succeed in school and their adult lives. In addition to the mini sessions, there was three general sessions.
Before arriving at the conference, they took the opportunity to tour Riley Children’s Hospital since FCCLA partnered with student council to raise funds with the Riley Royalty project.
Earning Gold medals at State were:
STAR event: Fashion Construction
• April Bishop
National Qualifier (Nationals will be at Opryland in Nashville, Tenn., in July)
State Projects:
• Brittanie Fugate – Early Childhood: Learning Pac
• Taylor Barrus & Kelsie Arnold – Focus on the Basics
• Katie Pepple – Healthy Choices = Healthy Teens
• Katie Pepple – Focus on the Basics
• Emily Hughes – Healthy Choices = Healthy Teens
The following students earned Silver medals at State STAR event: Chapter Service Project Display
• Alyson Long & Elizabeth Hardesty
State Projects:
• Maranda Galloway – Early Childhood: Learning Pac
• Claudia Helblig – Dynamic Dating
• Kara Kern – Focus on the Basics
• Katie Pepple – Dynamic Dating
• Onna Phillippe – Dynamic Dating
The following students earned Bronze medals at State:
• Katie Pepple – Beyond the Basics
