While traveling in Fort Wayne last week the news on the radio announced that the powers that be were going to save $400,000 of taxpayers' money. How will they do this? By not allowing city employees to drive city vehicles to and from work to their homes.

On the surface this sounds great to the taxpayer, but let's explore the logic. This perk makes city jobs more attractive thus getting better workers. The money saved by the workers is extra income. Since citizens spend all they take in, doesn't it go back into the local economy?

Now think about this. After all the bravado of self-serving politicians, where does the $400,000 go? It usually goes into the general fund and is then blown by the politicians. It disappears in the flash of an eye down a black hole.

It's easy to start making cuts at the bottom, taking from the workers. Like all the whiners about GM and Ford workers getting paid way too much, or let's take away their retirement. As the story goes, the fish rots from the head down. Thus it is with politics.

There are also a lot of gimme gimme non-producing parasites badgering the city for handouts. Like it says on the Statue of Liberty: Give me your wretched refuse, which in street language means give of your stinky garbage.

But that's OK. We must keep the fat cats fat and the parasites welcome. They are coming by the thousands and they all want a piece of that $400,000. Shut up, U.S. worker, and go to the back of the line.
