Wessel Named Hoops Coach At Whitko

SOUTH WHITLEY — Scott Wessel was officially named the head coach of the Whitko High School boys basketball team during Monday night’s Whitko School Board meeting.
Wessel will also come to the high school as a physical education teacher.
He is currently at Lafayette Jefferson, where he served as assistant coach.
Earlier this month, it reported was Triton assistant coach and long-time Glenn head coach Gordon Mosson would take the job.
Whitko Athletic Director Rob Iriwin confirmed that to the Times-Union.
It was later learned that Mosson decided to step down before the school board could approve his hiring.
Wessel is a 2006 DeKalb High School grad and graduated from Purdue with a bachelor’s in physical and health education.
Wessel said he was contacted by Rob Irwin and he agreed to take the job late last week.
Wessel said he was determined to have a strong program down to the first grade.
Whitko posted a 13-10 record this past season under Irwin, including a 5-2 mark in the Three Rivers Conference.
The Wildcats lost to eventual state runner-up Norwell in the sectional final.[[In-content Ad]]
