Gregory and Marilyn Wert, Valparaiso, announce the engagement of their daughter, Melanie Wert, Warsaw, to Jared Van Ness, Warsaw. He is the son of Lacy and Millie Francis, Warsaw, and the late Allen Van Ness.

The bride-to-be is an IT technician at Biomet Inc., Warsaw. She graduated from Boone Grove High School, Valparaiso, in 2001, and earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and information technology from Grace College & Seminary, Winona Lake, in 2005.

The groom-elect is a concrete laborer/finisher for Phend & Brown, Milford. He graduated from Warsaw Community High School in 1994.
