July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.
NORTH WEBSTER - Agencies interested in working on the proposed community center building in town - the former elementary school - were revealed Wednesday during a town council bid proposal opening.
Construction proposals were submitted by Scearce-Rudisel, Winona Lake; Paul Spite, Warsaw; MSKDT, Fort Wayne; and Prince-Alexander, Indianapolis.
R.P. Murphy and Associates, Larwill, submitted the only proposals for the administration and environmental services and wage and labor sections of the project.
No dollar amounts were given. The board is to select the most appropriate company for awards.
Funding for the project will come through a Community Focus Fund Block Grant.
Council president Kay Andrews said the council has come to an agreement with Wawasee Community Schools regarding transfer of the property and a separate corporation - North Webster Community Center Inc. - will be established to run the facility.
Bid proposals will be awarded Feb. 25 at 6 p.m. At 7 p.m. a public hearing will be held in the old elementary school's cafeteria regarding a senior citizen center grant.
In other business, the board:
• Heard from town clerk Peg Lawrance that the town's tax rate was set at $3.418 by the State Board of Finance. The state has decided not to use the "new" formula which tripled the assessed value of property and reduced the tax rates by one-third.
• Approved a grant application for a leaf vacuum, with the town paying a little more than half of the cost, $14,000, for the $26,500 machine.
The grant is available through Indiana Department of Environmental Management.
• Heard the Wawasee School Corp. plans an open house/dedication of the new elementary school Feb. 19 at 6 p.m.
• Set an executive session regarding the acquisition of property at noon Feb. 19 with a public meeting to follow at 12:30 p.m. also on Feb. 19.
• Heard from town marshal Greg Church that the department received four defibrillators through a K21 Foundation grant. He said his department was certified to operate the machines and thanked Winona Lake patrolman, Carl Love, for the work he did in securing the equipment.
• Approved an application for an IDEM storm drain grant in the amount of $100,000. The funds would be used to install filters on the five drains entering Webster Lake. The town maintains three of the pipes.
• Approved Tim Hine's request to vacate 50 feet of road east of lot 22 in the Warner Subdivision/Mid Lakes Estates.
• Announced that representatives of the Indiana Department of Commerce will walk through the old elementary school at 3:30 p.m. March 4. Senior citizens are urged to accompany IDOC on this tour.
Town council members are Kay Andrews, Ken Wagoner and Jeff Morgan. [[In-content Ad]]
