Webster Signs Contracts For Housing Project

NORTH WEBSTER - Contracts were signed Wednesday allowing the planned senior citizen housing project to move forward.
The North Webster Town Council chose Bob Murphy of R.P. Murphy & Associates, Larwill, as its grant coordinator and W. James McCleary, Warsaw, as project architect.
Both men included stipulations in their contracts that no money would be due them if the promised grant money was not received.
"There is no firm obligation required until you get the money confirmed," McCleary said.
The town was earlier notified by the Housing Finance Authority that it would receive $500,000. However, the confirmation letter apparently has been delayed. The town also received a $400,000 grant from Indiana Department of Commerce for the $1.53 million project.
The 20-unit complex is planned on a site northwest of the United Methodist Church in Epworth Forest.
Anyone who is interested in receiving an application for housing there should contact the clerk-treasurer. Those who have already given their names to the clerk will soon receive applications in the mail.
The bidding process for the project, which will begin after engineering is completed, could start by April.
In other business, North Webster resident Jerry Craig asked the council for input on a variation request for his business, Tech Tronics.
The business is located on the corner of Ind. 13 and Washington Street, where the most recent endeavor was a restaurant and which for a long time was a Shell station.
Craig previously went before the Area Plan Commission, but it delayed its decision until the town offers input. The council told Craig it wouldn't have a problem with his plans as long as he kept no more than 10 vehicles on the property at one time and avoided on-street parking of the vehicles.
In other matters, the council took care of annual agenda items including:
4 Choosing 7 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month for its meetings. The only exceptions will be when the second Wednesday falls prior to the 10th day of the month. In those cases, the meetings will take place on the third Wednesday.
4 Approved the following appointments: town attorney, Mike Armey; town marshal, Jerry Craig; deputy marshals, Todd Bough, Greg Church and Candace Smythe; public works superintendent, Marshall Minnick; sewage lab technician, Christine France; street and sewage department employees, Bob Wright, Chet Los and Frank France; police secretary/assistant clerk, Cathy Craig; street crossing guard, Ollie Hardin; and civil defense director, Harold Gunkle.
The next meeting is at 7 p.m. Feb. 12 in the town hall. [[In-content Ad]]
