NORTH WEBSTER - Verification of income and other qualifications are complete on the 25 applicants interested in living at the yet unbuilt senior citizen housing complex at North Webster.

Bids for infrastructure and housing construction will be accepted at the May meeting of the North Webster Town Council.

Prior to that, at 4 p.m. on April 30, Jim Oleksak of Indiana Housing Finance Authority, South Bend, will meet with prospective tenants to review housing plans and determine whether one- or two-bedroom units are desired. Oleksak said he will also find out how serious the applicants are by asking when each will be ready to move in and accepting security deposits for the units.

While planners were leaning toward bidding the project for manufactured homes only, a notice that the prevailing wage is lower than expected is allowing for it to be bid for stick-built and manufactured homes.

The project calls for an initial 10 duplexes to be built on the property northwest of the United Methodist Church at Epworth Forest.

Applications are still being accepted for housing; additional units will be built as money becomes available.

In other business, the Harrison Street repair project includes replacing sidewalks that are torn out as the work proceeds. Residents whose sidewalks are not torn out can have theirs replaced, though, for $4 per foot. Anyone interested should contact the clerk-treasurer's office.

The council also discussed possible address changes for some of the homes affected by annexation. Homes on Dixie Drive and at least one home on Blaine Street have county-numbered addresses that conflict with those assigned by the town. The matter was tabled for further review.

Approval was given to donate $450 (an annual contribution) to Kosciusko Development Inc.; to award the 1997 street paving project to Terry Cripe and the lawn maintenance contract to CJ Lawn Service; and to renew the garbage contract with Sweetheimer Trash Removal. The council denied a proposed telephone maintenance agreement.

The next meeting is at 7 p.m. March 14 in the town hall. [[In-content Ad]]
