NORTH WEBSTER - Recognition was given Wednesday to a North Webster businessman who came to the aid of a fellow man.
Bob Merchant, a pharmacist at Revco in North Webster, was presented a plaque noting that his efforts to save the life of Ollie Hardin were appreciated.
Hardin, a longtime North Webster resident who served as crossing guard at North Webster School, apparently suffered a heart attack while in Revco May 7. Merchant and Julie Adolphson, of the National Weather Service, immediately began CPR on Hardin.
"Both Bob and Julie were acting like professionals," said Town Marshal Jerry Craig. "When we got there, they stepped back and told us everything we needed to know."
"It's nice to have someone there telling us the sequence of events," said Alyssa Ray, an emergency medical technician with North Webster/Tippecanoe Township Emergency Medical Service. "It's nice to know that there are people like you who react fast and are there for the community."
Adolphson received her plaque Friday.
Despite the efforts of Merchant and Adolphson, the 74-year-old Hardin was pronounced dead at the hospital. [[In-content Ad]]
