In it’s fifth year, the event – planned Oct 5 from 5 to 9 p.m. – “Gets greater and bigger every year,” said Jon Sroufe, president of the center’s board of directors.
“We have the greatest group of prizes – ever. We’ve had an extremely great response from our sponsors this year and ticket sales are about where they were last year,” he added. “We’re amazed at the level of community involvement.”
This year’s prize lineup includes a Hyundai Veloster, courtesy of The Car Company; a Bennington pontoon, from Main Channel Marina; a Sea Doo DTI jet ski, from Main Channel Marina; a Polaris Ranger Crew 800 utility task vehicle, from Loose Moose Motorsports; a Polaris 750 Turbo IQ snowmobile, from Loose Moose Motorsports; a Rockwood popup camper, from Forest River; and $1,000 cash.
A $20 ticket includes a chance to win these raffle prizes, dinner and cash bar provided by Sleepy Owl Supper Club, and an evening full of live and silent auctions conducted by Hahn Auctioneers Inc.
Tickets are available at the center and at retail outlets all around North Webster.
All proceeds go toward community center operating expenses.
Board member Sherman Goldenberg said the event “is more than an auction. It’s lots of fun. People really enjoy it.”
Sroufe echoed those remarks: “We’re not sure why it works, but it works. We just want to carry on what’s become an early fall tradition here in North Webster.”
The community center was established in 2002. The NWCC Board of Directors initially raised $1.4 million to renovate the former North Webster Elementary school into a resource that could be used by the whole community.
Today the center houses and facilitates programs of the Kosciusko Community YMCA, North Webster Community Public Library, Senior Primelife Enrichment Center, Tippecanoe Watershed Foundation Inc, Lakeland Regional Sewer District, NWCC Art Center, The Cake Lady catering service and 2 Nurses Home Care.
The center also has hosted weddings, large fundraising events, Mermaid Festival pageants, election polls, health screenings, class reunions and dozens of Boy Scout, Girl Scout, lake association, town council, service club and support group meetings.
The annual charity auction has become a major key to the center’s financial success. Last year’s event raised more than $90,000.[[In-content Ad]]
