NORTH WEBSTER - The North Webster Community Center is stepping up its public outreach this fall with the launch of the first Heart of the Community Charity Auction.

The group hopes it will become an annual event.

A roster of sponsors is being lined up to help underwrite the fundraiser, scheduled for Sept. 26, from 5 to 9 p.m. in the NWCC gym. The center also is approaching area individuals and merchants for donated items and business services for the silent and live auctions.

Tickets for the event go on sale this week for $20 each and provide access to the event, including a cash bar and food from "The Cake Lady" Peggy Ruolo and Ye Olde Pub.

Ticket holders also gain entry to a raffle for a chance to win a 2010 Sun Chaser 820 pontoon from Skoker Craft with a 40-horsepower outboard. Retail value of the pontoon, motor and trailer is $17,900. Cash prizes of $1,000 and $2,000 also will be given away during the raffle.

Proceeds from the event will help defray the NWCC's operational expenses and facilitate substantial remodeling to accommodate expansion of the North Webster Public Library, one of the facility's key tenants.

Also housed at the NWCC on a year-round basis is a branch of Kosciusko Family YMCA, Senior Prime Life Enrichment Center, Lakeland Regional Sewer District, Tippecanoe Watershed Foundation and rental facilities for auctions, wedding receptions, family reunions and community garage sales.

Cub Scouts, winter baseball training, open gyms, exercise classes, a walking program, art instruction, acting classes, an active teen center and meetings for service organizations and support groups are all part of the regular activities at the NWCC.

NWCC is a non-profit organization that receives no tax dollars and operates entirely on grants, rental income and the goodwill of the citizens of Kosciusko County.

"We have always felt very fortunate to be a part of a community that has done its best to support us," said Jon Sroufe, NWCC board chairman. "Your participation in the upcoming Heart of the Community Charity Auction, whether by donating items or buying raffle tickets and attending the event, will help ensure that the NWCC can continue to thrive."

Tickets are available at a variety of North Webster and Syracuse retailers including North Webster Ace Hardware, American Legion Post 253, Sue's Creations, Jill and Jen's Salon, the NWCC and others.

Ticketholders need not be present to win.[[In-content Ad]]For information, contact:
