I just saw Gov. Mike Pence on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace talking about a number of issues in Indiana and proudly explaining SB229, a bill pertaining to our Second Amendment rights that was passed by our legislature and signed by him last month. When he discussed the idea of disarming parents while they were driving their children to school, it took me back.
Years ago, I lived in an area where I had to travel through a rough part of town to get to my children’s school. There were known crack houses in that area, police were often called out there, and at least once there was a shooting in the street. Due to swampland and an expressway that cut through the area, my only other option would have been to drive about eight miles into the country and then back into the other part of town.
Thank goodness that the majority of our legislators had the sense to pass this law allowing parents to keep concealed weapons locked in their cars while dropping their children off at school. To tell parents that they are committing a felony by trying to protect themselves and their children as they commute is not only infringement of our rights, but just plain wrong.  Unfortunately, Rep. Rebecca Kubacki doesn’t seem to understand this and joined a minority in voting against parents’ and gun-owners’ rights. I’ll be happy next week to vote for Curt Nisly who will protect my Constitutional rights.
