WCHS Students Seek Places To 'BLITZ'
July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.
Bringing Light Into The Tiger Zone is Warsaw Community High School's community-wide service program where students go out into the community and volunteer.
In the past, they have cleaned up cemeteries, walked the dogs at the animal shelter, painted curbs, played cards with senior citizens and much more. The volunteerism is performed during one of the high school's early release days.
But to make the BLITZ successful, WCHS is looking for chaperones and places for students to volunteer - anywhere a helping hand can be used.
Hanna Dillon, WCHS sophomore class vice president, said they do not know yet how many students are planning to volunteer, but last year, more than 500 students participated. Hopefully, she said, they will have more this year. A chaperone is needed for every six to 10 students in a group, but group sizes will depend on how many adults volunteer as chaperones.
Students must follow all school rules while out in the community.
"It's more fun than school," said Dillon. "I did it last year and I think it's the coolest thing a school can do for the community."
This year, BLITZ is April 24. Students will be picked up at approximately 11:30 to 11:45 a.m. and will be at the locations by noon. The BLITZ ends at 3 p.m.
To be a chaperone or to offer a volunteer opportunity for the students call the high school at 267-5174 or e-mail Dillon at [email protected]
Dillon said, "The reason we are doing this is to give back to the community that gives us so much." [[In-content Ad]]
