July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.

When a 5-year-old girl wandered away from her parents' house recently, many adults saw her but didn't hold on to her until police arrived.

They just reported the wandering girl, according to Warsaw Community High School Principal Dr. Jennifer Lucht at the Warsaw School Board meeting Monday night. Police kept searching for her based on the reports received.[[In-content Ad]]The girl, walking from her home on Union Street, ended up at the high school. Fortunately, five students alerted the right people of the young lady walking behind the high school, said Lucht. For "doing the right thing," Lucht recognized the five young men at the meeting Monday.

Those students included Andrew Rensberger, J.R. Byers, Chase Byerly, Kyle Tucker and Max Revere.

"I should note that the majority of our youth are in this caliber," said Lucht.

According to previous stories, the girl's wanderings didn't stop. While staying at her grandparents' home in Oswego, she wondered off again Dec. 4 in severe weather until she was found again.

The child's grandmother stated the girl had been with her and her husband since Nov. 20. From then until Dec. 4, the child left the house on five separate occasions despite the house having an alarm system. The child was with the grandparents because she kept wandering from her parents' home in Warsaw.
